Diagnostic Services invites applications from experienced and motivated medical laboratory technologists to provide technical and related laboratory services in the disciplines of Chemistry and Hematology.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful technologist will be responsible for the routine processing of chemistry, endocrinology, urinalysis, hematology, coagulation and cytology submissions from aquatic animals, livestock, companion animals, birds and wildlife.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Preparation and staining of blood smears and morphological evaluation of stained blood smears
- Automated analysis of sample submissions of whole blood, plasma, serum, and fluid samples with Sysmex XN and HM5 hematology analyzers, Stago Coagulation analyzer, Cobas Pure, Cobas c501, VS2 and iSTAT chemistry analyzers, and Immulite endocrinology analyzer
- Processing (including cytospin preparation) of fluid and cytology submissions
- Performing urinalysis
- Processing blood banking submissions
- Daily running and verification of Quality Control (QC) material
- Troubleshooting QC automated instruments and methods
- Entry of patient demographics and results in a Lab Information System
- Veterinary-specific training will be provided to the successful applicant
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) designation is required
- 3 years of related diagnostic experience, preferably in chemistry or hematology are required
- Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills are required
- Experience in blood smear evaluation and with veterinary hematologic, biochemical and coagulation instruments as well as with cytologic preparation of fluids and tissues would be an asset
- Experience with quality control protocols and with ISO standards is desirable.
- Good bench skills are essential
- The ability to work under minimal supervision, to multitask and to troubleshoot technical issues at the bench and instrument level is desirable
